Phony Electrician Stole Company's Name, Impersonated Owner In BurlCo: Police

He forged docs and took the business's name after the prior owner shut down the company and moved out of the country, authorities said.

MEDFORD, NJ — A Burlington County man fraudulently posed as an electrician by using the name of his associate's defunct business, authorities said.

Vincent Squire, 61, of Mount Laurel, was charged in mid-November with a range of fraud and theft offenses.

Police began investigating Squire earlier this year, when a Medford homeowner realized he was doing substandard work and didn't have an electrical permit. Authorities found that Squire forged documents, assumed a business's name without the former owner's knowledge and even impersonated them to police.

In October 2023, the owner of CB's Electrical Contracting, LLC closed the business and moved out of the country. He put his vehicle, tools, supplies and documents in a storage facility leased by Squire, his associate, police said.

Unbeknownst to the former owner, Squire took those belongings and began operating under the business's name, authorities said. He forged the prior owner's name on an electrical-permit application filed in Medford Township, according to law enforcement.

A Medford homeowner hired Squire in May, paying him $4,675. While Squire performed the work, the resident discovered he was doing an inadequate job and didn't have a permit, authorities said. The resident had to pay another electrician $2,545 to correct Squire's work.

Police did not say whether Squire took contracts for any other clients.

During the ensuing investigation, Squire impersonated the prior owner to police, authorities said.

Squire was charged Nov. 15 with contracting without an electrical license, theft by deception, criminal mischief, forgery, impersonation, hindering prosecution, obstruction of law, and deceptive business practice.

State Police stopped Squire's vehicle and arrested him the day after. He was placed in the Burlington County Jail, pending a court hearing.
