PEMBERTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — Police fatally shot a man Saturday in Burlington County, officials said.
Officers shot and killed him as authorities responded to a house fire, according to reports.
The shooting happened in the Browns Mills section of Pemberton Township, according to the state Office of the Attorney General (OAG), which is investigating the incident.

A gun was recovered near the man, the OAG said in a brief statement.
Police were called to a house fire around 4 p.m. Saturday on Woodland Avenue. Neighbors told NBC Philadelphia and 6abc Action News that they heard gunfire shortly after first responders reached the property.

It's unclear what prompted the shooting.
The OAG has not publicly identified anyone involved.
State law requires the OAG to investigate all deadly police shootings. Those findings must be presented to a grand jury to determine whether any officers should be indicted.
The OAG typically releases the identities of police and deceased civilians several weeks or months into each investigation.
