Increased Police Patrols At Moorestown Mall After Mass Shootings

Moorestown police have increased their presence at the mall and other large gatherings after two weekend mass shootings in Texas and Ohio.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Moorestown police have increased patrols at the Moorestown Mall and other large gatherings in the wake of mass shootings in Texas and Ohio that took place over the weekend.

“We have also increased our visibility at large gatherings, like at houses of worship and at schools,” said Moorestown Police Chief Lee Lieber, who said patrols would last for the foreseeable future.

He said the mall has also increased security on its own.

Over the weekend, a massacre at an El Paso shopping center left 20 people dead and 26 other injured. A 21-year-old man surrendered shortly after Saturday's rampage, authorities said.

Less than 24 hours later, nine people were killed and 27 wounded after a 24-year-old man opened fire in Dayton's entertainment district. The shooter is also dead, authorities said.

Both attacks come less than a week after a shooting at a California music festival left three dead.

“We’re in close contact with our state and federal partners, and they said there are no credible threats for the area,” Lieber said. “We’re just doing this for safety and to have increased visibility.”
