Police Investigate Home Break-Ins, Arrest Man with BB Pistol

May 17

Theft, 11:25-11:35 a.m. — A laptop computer, valued at $1,000, was stolen from the YMCA on Centerton Road after it was left unattended, police said.

Arrest (possession of weapon for unlawful purpose) — Police arrested Steven J. Whelan, 30, of the unit block of Eddlewood Place, for possessing a weapon, specifically a BB pistol, for an unlawful purpose, and criminal mischief to a vehicle, according to a report. He was served with criminal complaints and released pending a municipal court hearing.

Burglary, 9:56 p.m. — A burglar forced open the rear window of a home on the unit block of Cambridge Drive, activating an alarm, and stole an undetermined amount of jewelry, police said. Damage is estimated at $50.

May 18

Assault — Police said an unidentified man punched a guest of the Knights Inn on Route 73 in the face and left the scene.

Stolen vehicle — Police said someone stole an unlocked 2001 Honda Civic, valued at $2,500, from the 700 block of Country Club Parkway. The theft occurred between 11:30 p.m. May 17 and 3 a.m. May 18.

May 19

Arrest (hindering) — Police arrested Dennis W. Daily, 20, of the 100 block of Winthrop Avenue, Moorestown, for hindering and resisting arrest, according to a report. He was served with criminal complaints and released pending a municipal court hearing.

Burglary — Someone broke into the Grace Bible Church on South Church Street and stole a laptop, valued at $500, from inside, police said. A window, valued at $1,000, was also broken. The incident occurred between 5 p.m. May 18 and 12:22 p.m. May 19.

Arrest (defiant trespass) — Police arrested Philip A. Reed, 38, of the 1200 block of Cooper Street, Edgewater Park, and Shelby E. Nielsen, 28, of Green Street, Edgewater Park, for defiant trespass at the Don Pablo’s on Nixon Drive, according to a report. They were both served with criminal complaints and released pending a municipal court hearing.

May 20

Thefts from vehicles — Employees at two separate businesses on the 700 block of East Gate Drive reported having items stolen from their vehicles, police said. In the first incident, an iPod, valued at $100, was stolen after the thief broke into the car by smashing a window. The thief broke the window of a second vehicle and stole a laptop computer and day pack, valued at approximately $2,000, police said. The thefts occurred between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m.

Burglary, 9:20 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. — A burglar forced open the front door of a home on the unit block of Gaskill Road and stole electronics, a camera, jewelry and other items, valued at more than $2,400, police said. Damage is estimated at $2,500.

Burglary (Tricia Meadows), 12:30-6 p.m. — Police said a burglar forced open the side door of a home on the 200 block of North Pond Drive and stole about $4,000 worth of jewelry.

May 21

Arrest (disorderly person) — Police arrested Ram Thatigutla, 45, of the 100 block of Jillian Boulevard, Parsippany, for being disorderly at the Aloft hotel on Fellowship Road, according to a report. He was served with criminal complaints and released pending a municipal court hearing.
