Project Graduation Offers Moorestown High School Grads Safe Alternative to Celebrate

It is designed to keep graduates safe after commencement, Brandon J. Pugh writes in a special edition of his column.

With Moorestown High School graduation fast approaching, there are many exciting events to look forward to for graduating seniors and their families, including parties, the commencement ceremony, and various high school activities.

One program in particular will be sure to form lasting memories post commencement which, as some may have guessed, is Project Graduation.

However, Project Graduation needs your help to ensure success. As a past participant and a current volunteer, I hope you will join me in supporting the program through a variety of ways.

Project Graduation is a nationwide initiative that was formed in Maine 36 years ago in response to multiple alcohol and drug related deaths during graduation celebrations, and the program will be celebrating its 27th year in Moorestown.

Project Graduation provides a fun and safe way to celebrate graduation without drugs and alcohol. During this all night program beginning directly after the commencement ceremony and ending at 5 a.m., graduates will enjoy numerous activities, countless prizes, and endless food at “secret destinations” open just for the program.

Destinations are intentionally kept a surprise until arrival.

Traditionally over 90 percent of the graduating class attends the program, with some years approaching 100 percent. It costs about $150 per student, and is funded by the generosity of residents, student families, and local businesses.

There are several ways to support this cause. One way is to make a direct donation to the organization, or to become a sponsor. Donations can either be made online through the link below, or mailed using the attached form.

Yard signs are available for purchase to commemorate a graduating senior. There are three styles to choose from, but orders must be placed by April 24.

Finally, if you are able to assist in another capacity, such as donating items for prizes or volunteering, please email the Project Graduation Committee.

Donations are tax deductible and are made to the Moorestown Education Foundation/Project Graduation, a 501 (c) (3) organization.

Having been a recipient of Moorestown’s generosity toward Project Graduation, and now able to assist myself, I truly believe this is a needed and worthy program to ensure graduates have fun and are safe.

Your support will help ensure the continued success of the program. Additional information, yard sign purchases, and donations can be found here.
