Referendum Updates Among Topics Discussed by Moorestown BOE in May
Brandon J. Pugh recaps the Board of Education meeting for May.

The end of the school year may be just weeks away, but many exciting things happened in the district and on the Board of Education in May. This included student/staff recognition, adoption of the BOE meeting schedule, referendum updates, and remarks from the Governor on education.
At the May monthly meeting, the Board of Education recognized many students for incredible achievement. These students came from the high school, WMS, and the UES in the areas of world language, arts, music, and other disciplines, such as robotics. Seven retiring staff members were also recognized for their service to the district. A full list of staff and students can be found here.
The Board of Education meeting schedule for 2015-2016 was also adopted, which can be found here on page 132. Two meetings in particular to note include the August 2015 meeting, which was moved to an earlier date in the month, and the Reorganization Meeting, which will take place on January 5, 2016. All regular meetings start at 7:30 pm, except for the reorganization meeting, which begins at 7 pm.

The district’s construction manager provided an update on the Building Excellence Referendum projects at the monthly meeting. A timeline and project summary by school is now available at www.mtps.com and on each school’s webpage, which gives an estimated start/end date for each project and a description of the work. It is important to note that this is a living document and will be updated as changes are made, so please reference it periodically for the most up to date information.
One proposal was officially adopted as district policy at the May meeting. The policy was 9150 – School Visitors, which provides guidelines for visitors to school buildings such as disruptive visitors and sign-in. Seven policies are scheduled for second reading in June, which are all available on the district’s homepage.

Don’t miss out on the 2015 Moorestown School District Art Show, which is being coordinated by MTPS and MoorArts, on June 6 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on the third floor of the Moorestown Recreation Center. The show puts K-12 student work on display.
Moorestown Day will also be held on the same day on Main Street. Also, don’t forget that the MHS Commencement is on June 18, with Project Graduation immediately afterwards.
The last regular monthly Board of Education meeting for this school year will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at 7:30 pm in the William Allen Middle School Media Center (please note the change from June 23).
It would be great to see you at an upcoming meeting, and do not hesitate to reach out to the board as a whole, or myself if you need anything.
