Rotary Club Kicks off Fundraising for Relay for Life of Moorestown

The club presented a $500 check to the American Cancer Society at its recent meeting.

Moorestown, NJ -- The Moorestown Rotary Breakfast Club is a Bronze Sponsor of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event taking place at the Moorestown High School on Friday, June 10, 6 p.m.-midnight.

The club recently presented a $500 check to American Cancer Society Community Manager Mat Ogin kick off its fundraising drive, the club said on Wednesday.

The Relay For Life program began in 1985 when Dr. Gordy Klatt proposed that he would raise money for cancer initiatives by walking or running around a track for 24 hours. Over the years, the Relay For Life program evolved into the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event, embraced by more than 5,000 communities nationwide.

The walking and track components are still there, and local planning teams have started adding elements that reflect the communities in which they live: games, DJs, activities, live performers, and ceremonies dedicated to those who have been affected by cancer.

Relay for Life of Moorestown began in 2015, and raised over $30,000 for American Cancer Society programs, patient services, and groundbreaking cancer research.

The money was raised thanks to the efforts of friends, family members, neighbors, local businesses, organizations, and clubs.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Relay for Life of Moorestown had raised over $11,500.
