Rowing Club Surges Ahead at Regional Competition

The Moorestown Rowing Club had several first and second place finishes at the third Manny Flick on the Schuylkill River Sunday.

Moorestown rowers turned in strong performances at the third Manny Flick on the Schuylkill Sunday, with half their boats finishing either first or second in their respective races.

The Moorestown Rowing Club was among over 70 high schools and prep schools participating in the third Manny Flick. The team raced 10 boats, with five placing in either first or second.

Top finishes for the team included the Boys JV 8 and Boys Light Weight 8, which both placed first. The Boys Light Weight 8 had the most exciting finish of the day by edging out Ocean City High School by 4/10 of a second. Rowing in that boat were Andrew Hendrickson (stroke), Will Roman, Will Van Fossen, Brian Regan, Mark Cairoli, Samson Ramasamy, Ethan LaLumia, Jeff Waldin (bow) and Jack Sencindiver (coxswain).

The Boys JV 8 led their heat the entire course, beating a very strong Montclair boat. The JV 8 includes Kevin Shaloo (stroks), Matt O’Donnell, Jacob Henry, Colin Mattox, Cameron Acker, CJ Tweardy, Luke Zielinski, Jason Goldenberg and Erin Miller (coxswain).  

Placing second for the Varsity Boys Squad was the Light Weight 4 of Paul Entwistle (stroke), Kevin Harris, Will Gross, Wes Bickmore (bow) and Emily Mullin (coxswain), as well as the Boys Novice 8 of Andrew Campbell (stroke), Jack Camoratto, Tate Flannery, Kirk Zimmer, Christopher Linn, Ethan Williams, Angus Ferrell, Westin Bobadilla (bow) and Arianna LaBetti (coxswain). The Boys Novice 4 of Brian Trainer (stroke), Dan Runfola, Andrew McGrath, Andrew McGinley (bow) and Christian Groody (coxswain) came in fifth.

The Novice Girls Squad had two second place finishes. The Novice 4 of Sydney Gluck (stroke), Ellie Gluck, Jessie Farber, Kelly Bowman (bow) and Chelsea Manna (coxswain) came in behind a very strong boat from Philadelphia City Rowing, while the Girls Novice 8 were edged out by perennial powerhouse Mount Saint Josephs. The Girls Novice 8 included Emma Burns (stroke), Kiana Malta, Cassie Pendino, Sophia LeGato, Mary Regan, Camile Groody, Emily Brown, Madeline Carroll (bow) and Alle Sanchez (coxswain).

The top boat for the Varsity Girls Squad was the Varsity 4, who placed second behind Mount Saint Josephs. Claire Wixted (stroke), Sam Trivinia, Gab Martin, Sam Wonderlin (bow) and Sarah Tennenbaum comprised the Varsity 4. Also racing for the Girls Varsity Squad were the Girls JV 8 and the Girls Light Weight 8. Both boats placed fourth in their respective races. The JV 8 included Kristin Munoz (stroke), Shannon Farrell, Kaitlyn Boyle, Alexe Tsao, Sam Brodie, Jasleen Kanhari, Rachel Maher, Zahabya Mama and Maggie Sawin (coxswain). Rowing in the Light Weight 8 were Julie Camoratto (stoke), Allie Stevens, Jessica Buck, Casey Powell, Amy Wright, Sarah Jaraha, Amanda Slominski and Scout Brisson.

The team will spend the upcoming week doing more seat racing as the coaches make adjustments to the boat lineups. The next Manny Flick will be held April 15.
