Moorestown, NJ -- Even when they’re not catching criminals, Moorestown Police are likely tracking something down. In one case, it was a rather large snake.

“An officer was surprised to see this 8-foot boa constrictor out for a jaunt on Colonial Avenue Friday afternoon,” police said in a Twitter post that included the image of the snake attached to this post.

Surprised or not, the quick-thinking officer was able to trap the snake in a nearby recycling bin, the Burlington County Times reports. The snake was reclaimed by its owner shortly thereafter.

Moorestown Police Chief Lee Lieber said nothing like that has ever happened in Moorestown, but was glad the snake didn’t have to spend time in the slammer.

"I didn't want that snake anywhere near the station," he told the newspaper.
