South Jersey Families Sought To Host Spanish Students In July

From June 28 to July 25, 15 high school students from Spain will be coming to the area to study English and experience American life.

Global Friendships is committed to making the world a smaller place, one friendship at a time. From June 28 to July 25, 15 high school students from Spain will be coming to the area to study English and experience American life.

The students, who hail from all parts of Spain, are excited to visit America, improve their English, and learn about our culture.

“This will be the 11th program to take place in our area, Global Friendship’s local coordinator Dan Herman said.

In addition to attending classes at Grace Church three times per week, the visiting students from Spain will take trips and participate in fun activities.

Trips include New York downtown, New York uptown, Great Adventure, and Delaware River Tubing.
Students will also check out a Trenton Thunder baseball game, the Cherry Hill Mall, a bowling party, and a swim party.

Host families are invited but not required to participate in activities and trips. Transportation is free for everyone, and entry fees are always half price. Host families usually consist of 2 or more people.

“Beyond that, we are looking for families interested in cultural exchange that can provide a welcoming environment,” Herman said.

“I can't say enough about the program,” said Elizabeth Haley, of Haddonfield, “It was a wonderful experience, and we made a friend for life!”

“I would definitely recommend being a host family; it is a special way to understand a different culture and make lasting friendships,” Holly McConville said.

Denise Klein, whose family has hosted several times, says “It has been such a rewarding experience for our family, and our two former students are always ready to face time and help my son with Spanish,” said Denise Klein, whose family has hosted several times. :We love learning Spanish and supporting this program.”

Currently, there are host families in Cherry Hill, Haddonfield, Collingswood, and Moorestown. There are still seven students that need caring families for the July program.

The responsibilities of the host are to provide the student a place to sleep, as well as meals. Anyone interested in hosting or finding out more information can call Dan at 856-287-2393.
