South Jersey Man Charged With Sharing Child Porn Online

A Mount Laurel man has been arrested and charged with possession and distribution of child pornography, Burlington County Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi said on Friday.

Daniel P. Caplan was charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of children. The charge covering distribution of the pornographic material is a second degree crime. The other two, which deal with possession of the pornographic material, are third degree crimes.

Caplan was lodged in Burlington County Jail on $250,000 full bail. If he posts bail, Caplan is forbidden from using the Internet or having contact with minors.

The investigation began after the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office High-Tech Crimes Unit received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that Caplan was sharing a video of child pornography with another individual through the use of a web camera streaming program.

Investigators executed a search warrant at Caplan’s home on Thursday. Police seized a laptop they allege contained numerous videos and images of child pornography.

Caplan was arrested at his home.

The investigation was conducted by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office High-Tech Crimes Unit. The warrant was served with the assistance of the Mount Laurel Police Department and the New Jersey State Police.

The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office High-Tech Crimes Unit is a member of the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force and the New Jersey State Police Cyber Terrorism Task Force.
