South Jersey Shop Owner From Moorestown Dies At Age 100

Bertha Alvis (nee Gruno), of Moorestown, NJ, passed away on February 26, 2018, at the age of 100.

Bertha Alvis (nee Gruno), of Moorestown, NJ, passed away on February 26, 2018, at the age of 100. Bertha owned and operated Alvis’ Food Market, in Mount Laurel for four years and then in Voorhees for 26 years. Bertha loved to garden, read, and crochet and many of Bertha’s crocheted pieces were sold at shops in Haddonfield, Medford, and Moorestown.

Preceded in death by parents, August and Bertha Gruno; and 8 brothers and sisters; wife of the late Arden R. Alvis Sr. father of Arden Robert Alvis Jr. of Moorestown; Arlene Anderson of Mt. Laurel and the late Alice Diane Alvis. Grandmother of Tracy McCormack, John Anderson, and Scott Anderson. Great grandmother of Charlotte and Jake Anderson, Scott Jr, Anthony, and Victoria Anderson, and Molly and Elliot McCormack.
Funeral service is Friday, 10 a.m. at the Lewis Funeral Home, 78 East Main Street, Moorestown, NJ. Viewing is 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
