Things to do this weekend-MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATIONS

The Sam Lepore Group with Keller Williams Real Estate put together a great list for the weekend festivities.

Memorial Day traditionally signifies the beginning of summer. It is a day for picnics, barbeques and family gatherings. It is a day to reflect on the sacrifices made throughout our nation’s rich history by the men and women who defended and continue to defend our freedom. Including our veterans we should remember to honor our community’s first responders, who protect and serve us in their daily routine.

If you see a veteran or first responder this weekend, please remember to thank them.

Here are some of the events taking place in our area to celebrate Memorial Day:

Moorestown - Join us at Memorial Field on Church Street for Moorestown's Memorial Day Ceremony at 10am, Monday, May 30th, as we honor and remember those who paid the ultimate price to ensure our freedom. Boy Scout Troop #44 will post the colors and the Cub Scout Troop #44 will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. This annual events pays tribute to our veterans and those who are still serving defending our freedom.

Mt. Laurel – You are invited to join officials, veteran organizations and other civic organizations to pay tribute to those who have served in the Armed Forces defending our country. Mount Laurel’s annual Memorial Day tribute will be held on Friday, May 27th, at 6pm at Laurel Acres Park on South Church Road.

Marlton – Is hosting their Memorial Day 5K beginning at 9am on May 30th. Beginning line is 120 Spring Road and it is a flat and fast 5K through the tree shaded community of Marlton Lakes. Finish crossing the main dam, chip timing, awards through 70+. Registration for this event ends May 28, 2016 at 11:59 EDT. Haddonfield - Members of Haddonfield American Legion Post 38 invite veterans, service members and residents to join them in observing Memorial Day on Monday, May 30.

The post will conduct its Annual Memorial Day Parade stepping off promptly at 10 a.m. The parade will form up with its forward position at Kings Highway and Chestnut Street facing toward Haddonfield Memorial High School. The parade will end at the high school where a memorial service will be conducted.

The parade will include the Post 38 Color Guard and members of the post, the high school marching band, the mayor and commissioners, the Girl Scouts, Boy Scout Troops 64 and 65 and Cub Scout Packs 64 and 65, the Royaleers/Royaleer Mounties All-Girl Drum & Bugle Corps of Haddonfield, the apparatus of Haddon Fire Company No.1 and the Haddonfield Ambulance Association.

After the parade, a Memorial Service will be held at the War Memorial in front of the High School. The Memorial Service will honor the fallen men and women of nine wars, from the American Revolution to the present-day conflict in Afghanistan. The service will include normal military honors; Chaplain’s prayers; remarks by Post 38 Commander, Jeff Bowman; remarks by Mayor Jeff Kasko; placement of flags for each war; a reading of “In Flanders Fields” by the HMHS Honor Society and music by the Pick-Up Band.

Hot dogs and sodas and Mr. Softee ice cream, donated anonymously, will be provided after the service.

If the parade is cancelled due to inclementweather, the Memorial Service will be conducted in the High School Auditorium at 11a.m.
