MOORESTOWN, NJ — A third Moorestown resident has died after testing positive for new coronavirus, Burlington County officials announced on Wednesday. An 84-year-old Moorestown woman was among 19 new deaths reported across Burlington County on Wednesday.

Three more Moorestown residents have also tested positive for the coronavirus. The total number of positive cases in the township is now 61, with three fatalities and 11 cleared from quarantine.

“Today we grieve for the loss of 19 residents whose lives were cut short by Coronavirus disease,” Dr. Herb Conaway said. “Each day our first responders, healthcare workers, and essential personnel working in groceries, banks, factories and supply houses risk their lives going to work. Despite all of their efforts, and all the work that is done, we as a community will rise and fall by the compliance to social distancing rules. The lives of your families and friends are on the line. Please, stay home.”

Wednesday’s fatality was the first woman from Moorestown to die after testing positive for the coronavirus. The other two were both men, ages 93 and 73.

In addition to the 19 new deaths, there were 71 new cases and five more residents were cleared from quarantine in Burlington County. Countywide, there are 1,281 cases with 48 fatalities and 97 residents cleared from quarantine.

How It Spreads

The virus that causes COVID-19 is spreading from person-to-person. Someone who is actively sick with COVID-19 can spread the illness to others. That is why CDC recommends that these patients be isolated either in the hospital or at home (depending on how sick they are) until they are better and no longer pose a risk of infecting others.

There is currently no vaccine for COVID-19.

While the best way to prevent illness is to avoid virus exposure, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention always recommends taking preventive actions to contain the spread of viruses.
This includes:

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipes.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
