'Unsafe Bridge' Closed, Heavy Traffic Anticipated Around Burlington County
Camden Avenue (Route 537) is closed in both directions. It could last for several weeks as officials repair the Main Street Bridge.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — The closure of a "structurally unsafe bridge" in Burlington County cause overflow traffic in surrounding areas. Repairs on the Main Street Bridge on Camden Avenue (Route 537) will likely take several weeks, prompting officials to close the road in both directions at the Maple Shade-Moorestown border.
The Burlington County Engineer's Office ordered the bridge's temporary closure Thursday for structural repairs. The bridge crosses the north branch of the Pennsauken Creek.
The engineer's office, engineering consultants and contractors are working on a mitigation plan, county officials said. Detours were posted to route traffic to Route 73, Route 41 and Lenola Road.

In nearby Cinnaminson, police expect the closure to bring overflow traffic to the township. The township police department will assign officers to the overflow areas to ensure safe travel.
Work on the bridge was already taking place when the condition of the bridge pilings was discovered, according to Burlington County officials. The bridge was built in 1900 and reconstructed in 1930. More than 12,000 vehicles travel over the structure daily on Route 537, which turns into West Camden Avenue on the Moorestown side.
