I-287 Northbound Lanes To Close In Morris County: See Details

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Drivers in Hanover and Morris Township will see overnight lane closures on I-287 northbound tonight as a bridge replacement project moves into a new phase under the Hanover Avenue Bridge.

The work is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Friday and continue until 9 a.m. Saturday between mileposts 37.2 and 37.6, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

Two lanes on I-287 northbound are scheduled to be closed so crews can restripe the roadway and place a construction barrier. The setup will shift traffic and establish a long-term right shoulder closure underneath the Hanover Avenue Bridge. At least two lanes will remain open overnight, according to NJDOT.

By 9 a.m. Saturday, all lanes on I-287 northbound are scheduled to reopen, with traffic shifted left toward the median. The right shoulder will remain closed, and that traffic pattern is expected to stay in place through November 2027. According to NJDOT, the closure is needed for bridge abutment repairs and other improvements in the right shoulder.

The overnight work had originally been scheduled for Saturday, June 27, but was postponed because of inclement weather. NJDOT advised motorists to slow down, use caution, and expect delays when traveling through the work zone.

The lane closures are part of a $17.5 million federally funded bridge replacement project on the Hanover Avenue, or County Route 650, bridge over I-287 in Hanover and Morris Township, Morris County.

According to NJDOT, the project will replace the concrete bridge deck and also improve drainage, lighting, signage, and fencing on the bridge. Sidewalks will be replaced, and curb ramps will be upgraded to meet ADA standards, according to the agency.
