The following is a letter to the editor from Mary Lou Orr:
After more than 70 years in Morris Plains, I know how important it is to preserve our town's character while planning responsibly for its future. Although I have voted Republican for most of my life, this year I am voting for Nancy Verga for mayor and Lee Connor and Rosaria DeNova for Borough Council. I believe local leadership should be judged by experience, priorities, and commitment to the community—not party affiliation.
Nancy Verga brings valuable experience as a three-term council member and chair of the Finance Committee. She has supported responsible development, pedestrian safety, downtown revitalization, and efforts to control municipal costs. Her 2023 vote against the zoning ordinance permitting drive-through restaurants reflects my concern that growth must not come at the expense of neighborhood safety and quality of life.
Lee Connor brings extensive experience in education and community leadership, including serving as president of the Board of Education. Her work promoting greater transparency and resident involvement in planning demonstrates a commitment to thoughtful growth.
Rosaria DeNova offers business and technology experience, along with a focus on smart planning, environmental responsibility, and a vibrant downtown. These priorities are essential to preserving our town's appeal for future generations.
Morris Plains faces important decisions about development, traffic, pedestrian safety, and property taxes. We need leaders who will listen to residents, carefully weigh the consequences of their decisions, and protect the qualities that make our community special.
After seven decades here, I believe our town's future is too important to let party loyalty determine my vote. I encourage my fellow residents to look beyond political labels and consider who will best serve Morris Plains.
That is why I will vote for Nancy Verga for mayor and Lee Connor and Rosaria DeNova for Borough Council.
Sincerely,
Mary Lou Orr
