Boy Scout Troop 39 Honors Newest Eagle Scout

Boy Scout Troop 39 of Morris Plains recently held a Court of Honor to recognize its newest Eagle Scout: Christopher Swanson of Morris Plains.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in Boy Scouts and is held for life. Christopher’s Eagle project involved leading a project to beautify the grounds of his parish church, Notre Dame of Mount Carmel in Cedar Knolls. After careful planning and site visits, Christopher led a group of more than 20 volunteers in planting the “Eagle’s Wings Garden” along the front and side of the church. More than 150 volunteer hours were devoted to reviewing the plans, acquiring tools and materials, removing old shrubs, preparing planting beds, planting flowers and ornamental shrubs, mulching and cleanup.

Christopher is a junior at Morristown High School and a resident of Morris Plains. The Eagle project is one of the last steps toward becoming an Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in Boy Scouts. An Eagle project involves planning developing and leading others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, school or community. The project proposal must be approved by the organization benefiting from the effort, as well as leaders from the Scout’s troop and council.
