AAUW Program on Lady Liberty

LADY LIBERTY - her life and times presented by local author Kevin Woyce

The Somerset Hills Branch of AAUW is sponsoring a talk on The Statue of Liberty on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at the Bernards Township Library.

Did you know that our Lady Liberty just celebrated her 125 birthday on October28th? Initial fund raising for her pedestal was given steam when Joseph Pulitzer wrote articles telling the super rich and middle class that they should help with the funding. The statue waited a year in storage crates before she was finally able to be assembled on the finished pedestal in 1886.  She has a long and wonderful history with us here in the Unite States and New York City.
