Greater Morristown YMCA Swimmers Compete in North Carolina

2017 YMCA Short Course Nationals and Sunkissed Jr./Sr. Championships

[Greensboro and Charlotte, NC] – The Greater Morristown YMCA Swim Team had 2 swimmers compete in the 2017 YMCA Short Course Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina from April 3rd – April 7th. Senior Shannon Schrope and Junior Meghan Crowley competed in the 100 yd. breaststroke at the highest level YMCA swim meet where 199 teams were in attendance, 1,421 swimmers competing from a total of 28 states. Congratulations on your outstanding achievements.

Recently, 30 swimmers from the GMY Swim Team competed in the Sunkissed Jr. /Sr. Championship Meet held in Charlotte, North Carolina from March 30- April 2nd. This was a 3 ½ day meet with prelims and finals and 18 teams attending. Several GMY swimmers qualified for finals.

In the senior competition, Senior Shannon Schrope placed 8th in the 100 yd. breaststroke and 9th in the 200 yd. breaststroke. Junior Dominic Palumbo placed 7th in the 100 yd. breaststroke and 5th in the 200 yd. breaststroke qualifying for the 2018 YMCA Short Course Nationals. Junior Kelly Pierson, placed 18th in the 100 yd. backstroke qualifying for YMCA States for the 2017-18 season. Freshman Allison Kane placed 25th in the 1000 yd. freestyle dropping more than 30 seconds on the first evening of the meet.

In the junior competition, Kelsey MacMillan, 13, placed 25th in the 500 yd. freestyle, 9th in the 100 yd. butterfly and 17th in the 50 yd. freestyle achieving all personal best times. James Few, 13, placed 17th in the 50 yd. freestyle and 15th in the 100 yd. freestyle also with personal best swims. Luke Hayward, 13, placed 24th in the 100 yd. backstroke achieving his personal best swim in the prelims. Our youngest swimmer and first time to compete at the Sunkissed Meet was Margaux Scott, 11, who placed 18th in the junior competition in the 100 yd. breaststroke. GMY relays in the Jr. competition placed 13th in the 400 yd. Medley Relay and the 200 yd. Medley Relay. The Boys Jr. 200 yd. Free Relay placed 12th and the Girls Sr. 200 yd. free relay placed 14th.

It was a very successful meet with 75 personal best times achieved by the swimmers over the course of the weekend. Congratulations to all swimmers on your outstanding accomplishments.
