House Party Busted For Underage Drinking In Morris Township: Police

All 30 of the party's attendees were underage, police said.

MORRIS TWP, NJ— Morris Township police broke up a house party last weekend after a noise complaint lead to the discovery of underage drinking, police said in a statement.

Police said a noise complaint lead them to an "underage drinking party" last Friday, where 30 people under 21 were drinking. About half of the drinkers were minors, according to the statement.

The owner of the Normandy Heights Road home, William Stitt, was home and aware underage people were drinking. He was charged with making property available for underage consumption of alcohol, which can carry a maximum penalty of six months in jail, if he's found guilty.

Some of the party attendees were charged with underage possession of alcohol and providing false information to the police.

Although no one was injured at the party, Captain Mark DiCarlo stressed in the release that underage drinking can have serious consequences.

"At this particular incident, there were no injuries or medical emergencies involving the individuals. Unfortunately, this is not always the case and the initial alert to police is the dispatch to a medical emergency involving one of the attendees," DiCarlo said. "Besides the health risk involving underage drinking and associated offenses, there are usually other social implications which include educational institution punishment, potential criminal record, and loss of college opportunity."

DiCarlo also reminded parents about consequences they could face for hosting parties with underage drinkers, including criminal and civil charges.

"Please be responsible and assure our youth are positively influenced and kept safe from potential dangerous situations," DiCarlo said.
