Hypodermic Needles, Shoplifting Top Morris Plains Police Blotter

A criminal charge is merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

MORRIS PLAINS, NJ— Morris Plains Police officers made multiple arrests in the past week, including for possession of hypodermic needles and shoplifting.

Here is the police blotter for arrests made between March 24 and April 2.

March 24th, 2017, at 2:05 A.M: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Route 10 East near Johnson Road for multiple violations. While speaking with the driver, a 49-year old male Newark resident, the officer requested that he step out of the vehicle and perform a series of standard field sobriety tests. Subsequently, the driver was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence and transported to police headquarters. He was processed, charged with being Under the Influence, and issued motor vehicles summonses for Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, Use of Hand-Held electronic device, and Refusal to submit to breath testing. He was then released to a sober friend pending a mandatory court appearance in Morris Plains Municipal Court.

March 29th, 2017, at 6:06 P.M.: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Speedwell Avenue for an equipment violation. While speaking to the passenger, a 33-year old female Wharton resident, she was found to have two active warrants for her arrest out of Roxbury Township Municipal Court. She was also found to be in possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Hypodermic needles. She was placed under arrest for the Drug Paraphernalia and transported to police headquarters. She was processed, charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Hypodermic Needles, and turned over to the Roxbury Township Police Department.

April 1st, 2017, at 12:27 P.M.: Officers were dispatched to the Stop & Shop Supermarket for the reported shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival officers spoke with the Loss Prevention Officer who explained that the male attempted to exit the store without paying for $250.00 dollars worth of merchandise. Subsequently, the male, a 69-year old Springfield resident, was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. He was processed, charged with Shoplifting, and released pending a mandatory court appearance in Morris County Superior Court.

April 2nd, 2017, at 2:00 A.M.: An officer stopped a vehicle on Littleton Road after observing the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Speedwell Avenue. While speaking to the driver, a 21-year old male Florham Park resident, the officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. He was asked to step out of his vehicle and perform a series of standard field tests. Subsequently, he was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated and transported to police headquarters. He was processed, issued traffic summonses for Driving While Intoxicated, Speeding, and Careless Driving. He was then released to a sober family member pending a mandatory court appearance in Morris Plains Municipal Court.
