FIND THE FUN OF FAIRIES-Visit Watnong Park in Morris Plains

Morris Plains Fairy Walk

Last weekend fairies, young and old, gathered at Watnong Park in Morris Plains. As the sun was setting, visitors enjoyed the many little fairy houses placed along a path through the woods that were all glowing with lights. The park, located just off Grannis Avenue, features a pond and waterfall, playground, pickleball court, and picnic areas. After children enjoyed trying to spot the little fairies hidden along the path, they were treated to a variety of crafts and games. The event was hosted by the Morris Plains Beautification Committee and Morris Plains Clean Communities with support from the Morris Plains Department of Public Works and Police Department. Those missing the opening event can still visit the Fairy Walk, which will be on permanent display. Visitors should look for the signs posted in back of the pickleball court and are asked to stay on the path to avoid any poison ivy that may be growing there. Stay quiet so you don't scare the fairies that may be sleeping.

Repairs are being planned, but the road could be closed for three weeks because "embankment erosion along Watnong Brook from Hurricane Irene has begun to undermine the stability of Lake Valley Road just south of Mill Road," according to township administrator Tim Quinn. The normally tranquil Watnong Brook "There will be local access for residents living on Lake Valley Road, the Deerchase neighborhood and Tracy Court," Quinn said. "A detour has been put into place utilizing Mill Road, Burnham Road and Lake Road." Any questions may be addressed the administrator's office at 973-326-7360.
