Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Women Winning the Right to Vote

Dear Residents,

This month marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. This is a significant historic milestone that is worthy of commemoration by all.

It’s hard to fathom that just 100 years ago, women (who comprise half of our population) were denied access to this most fundamental right. Women basically had no voice in shaping what happens in our country. Fast forward to today: scores of women serve in elected office at the local, county, state, and federal levels. A century of progress worth celebrating!

This Sunday, August 30th, I am co-hosting an event to commemorate this historic milestone anniversary. The event will take place from 4-5:30PM outside (rain or shine) on the steps of the Hartley Dodge Building, 50 Kings Road in Madison. See the flyer for more details.

Social distancing and mask wearing will be required of anyone who attends in person. For anyone who’s not comfortable attending in person, this event will be live-streamed via the Morristown-area League of Women Voters Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/LWVMorristownArea/

Anyone who’s interested in learning more about the history of women’s suffrage, celebrating our progress, and getting inspired to continue our progress in the days ahead is welcome to attend.

Also, in case you haven’t seen it, the Proclamation Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Passage of the 19th Amendment that we – the members of the Morris Township Committee - passed at our last meeting. BIG THANKS to my colleagues for their support!

Hope to see you at Sunday's event!

Best to all,
Cathy
