On December 18th, the Township Committee held its final meeting for 2019. Community members recognized at this month’s meeting included: The New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police presented Chief Mark Dicarlo, Morris Township Police Department and Governing Body Re-Accreditation for meeting the standards of professionalism to improve performance. Accreditation is for a three year period. Dr. Peter Gallerstein for his 18 years of service on the Morris School Board, and the 7 th Grade Morristown Wildcats football team for their Super Bowl Win. Following the ceremonies, the Township Committee received a presentation from Annmarie Feldman, who is completing her Master’s at the College of St. Elizabeth, covering her research on youth vaping.

The Committee passed five ordinances during the meeting, further details and descriptions can be found here. Among the ordinances passed was ordinance 31-19, which will prohibit local businesses from distributing single use, takeaway plastic bags effective July, 2020. Additionally, the Committee passed several resolutions, among them was Resolution 223-19, which identifies Restoration Hardware as a potential buyer of the Abbey property on Madison Avenue. When the Abbey Redevelopment Plan is completed by the Township Planner and introduced by the Governing Body (ordinance) the Plan details will be available for review by the public. There will be a public hearing prior to a vote by the Governing Body on the proposed Redevelopment Plan.
