Morristown Set for Rematch With Defending Champs in Playoff Opener

Colonials heading to West Morris Central Friday.

Can lightning strike twice?

That is what Morristown is hoping when they take on the West Morris Central, one of three opponents they defeated this season in the first round of the playoffs.

After a season of ups and downs, the Morristown Colonials are looking to surprise a few teams as they head back into the playoffs despite having a losing record of 3-6.

The team enters the second season as the No. 7 seed in the NJSIAA North 2 Group 4 sectional bracket, and will face off against No. 2 seed West Morris Central on Friday at 7 p.m. at Wolfpack Stadium.

Central was handed one of its three losses by the Colonials during a defensive battle that saw Morristown squeak out a 3-0 win.

The Wolfpack beat Passaic Valley in the North 2, Group 4 sectional title game in 2012 to win its second championship in four seasons.  The Central football team is headed back to the playoffs in search of back-to-back state sectional championships. If Morristown wins in the first round, it will host the winner of Colonia (No. 3) and Mendham (No. 6) on Nov. 22. The bracket's top seed is Phillipsburg.
