Morristown ShopRite Set for Nov. 10 Grand Opening

Motown gets a brand new supermarket Nov. 10 when the ShopRite of Greater Morristown opens its doors at 178 E Hanover Ave. to the public.

Company spokesperson Anne Marie Sauro said there is a reason the word "greater" is in the new store's full name.

"This is a great location to serve the communities of Morristown, Cedar Knolls, Whippany, Morris Township, Morris Plains, Randolph, Florham Park, Madison,  Mendham, Denville, and more," she told Patch. "By calling it the ShopRite of Greater Morristown, we are inviting our neighbors from surrounding towns to see us as their neighborhood ShopRite too."

Sauro said the new market is not afraid of competition with existing Morristown markets Acme and Shop and Stop, plus another ShopRite in Morris Plains on Route 202. 

"The ShopRite of Greater Morristown will be unlike any supermarket in the area," she said, noting that in addition to groceries, the retailer will also carry craft beer, fine wines and spirits and a vast array of gourmet and ready-to-eat foods. "It will feature a Village Food Garden which will offer unique items of all cuisines, expertly crafted using only the freshest ingredients, reminiscent of European food halls."

Here’s a taste of what The ShopRite of Greater Morristown will offer:

• Oyster Bar with freshly shucked oysters and other seafood 
delicacies created using fresh seafood delivered daily
• Juice Bar, where customers can purchase made-to-order fruit & veggie juices and smoothies. 
• Mr. Perry’s Smokehouse, a stand featuring barbecue favorites like pulled pork, slow-cooked brisket, St. Louis smoked ribs prepared by the store's in-house Pitmaster
• Blueprint Subs & Salads, where customers create their own "sandwich masterpieces"
• VFG Diner, which serves classic diner fare with a gourmet spin.

Other offerings include a sushi station, a gourmet pizza stand, a café featuring baristas making hand-crafted coffee drinks and a range of plain and fancy bakery creations.

This new ShopRite won't just be a place to push a cart and buy flour and poultry for the family. Sauro said it is also a place to sit and enjoy. Sauro said items from the Village Food Garden can be enjoyed in an indoor/outdoor seating area furnished with lounge-like seating and television sets. The area also includes a Health and Wellness Center (complete with a fitness studio), a Learning Center, the Dietitian’s Corner, a pharmacy and periodic culinary classes.

Sauro said that the new ShopRite will also offer a Catering Center with a coordinator who can assist with “made from scratch” catering orders, setup for events and delivery. The ShopRite from Home Delivery service will also be available to customers who wish to order groceries for pickup or delivery.

While Sauro did not say how many jobs may be available at the new market, she said people "with a passion for food" are encouraged to apply by going to www.shoprite.com and selecting the ShopRite of Greater Morristown. 

The grand opening kicks off Nov. 10 and will continue with themed weekends throughout November, she said. Themes include Taste of Tuscany (wine tastings, cheese pairings, bread samplings and prizes), Family Day (arts and crafts, games, and food), Health & Wellness Day (featuring flu shot kiosks, aerobics classes and food samplings) and Local Day (which spotlights local farmers and businesses).
