MORRIS PLAINS, NJ — The identities of the two people killed in a murder suicide have been released, the Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp said on Monday. Laurel R. Chasmar, 28, of Morris Plains and Hassan Shahid, 32, of Jersey City died early Saturday morning in Morris Plains in an apparent murder suicide.

Chasmar was shot near The Highlands at Morris Plains Apartments on The Buckley Way just after midnight, in what Knapp called a homicide. Shadid died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly afterwards over the border in Morris Township.

Residents reported hearing gunshot noises just after midnight. The bodies were found by police following those calls.
