New Turf Field Unveiled At Morris Township Middle School

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ — Student-athletes in the Morris School District have a new place to play following the completion of a synthetic turf field at Frelinghuysen Middle School.

District officials formally celebrated the new field with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday. Members of the Morris School District administration and Board of Education joined the Morristown High School boys varsity soccer team for the event.

The field was completed in July after less than three months of construction and is already being used by students across the district.

Frelinghuysen Middle School and Morristown High School soccer teams are using the field for practices and games, while middle school physical education classes are also taking advantage of the new facility. Baseball and softball teams are expected to begin using it during the spring season.

"This rapid transformation reflects our ongoing commitment to providing top-tier athletic facilities for our students," Superintendent Dr. Anne Mucci said.

According to the district, the all-weather, multi-sport surface is intended to allow for more year-round playing time while cutting ongoing maintenance costs. Its durability will also allow multiple teams and physical education classes to regularly use the facility throughout the fall and spring seasons.

Interim Director of Athletics David Doty called the new field a "game-changer" for district athletes.

"It guarantees our middle and high school teams maximum playing time on a top-tier facility they can truly take pride in," Doty said.

The facility will serve athletes from Frelinghuysen Middle School through Morristown High School, whose varsity teams compete in the NJAC and NJSIAA.
