Overdose Reversed By Morris Township Police Officer

The officer used Narcan to save the victim's life.

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ— A Morris Township Police Officer helped save the life of a resident during an overdose by using Narcan, police said.

Ptl. Diego Pinheiro recognized the signs of an overdose during a criminal investigation, police said. A woman was showing signs of respiratory distress, and Pinheiro administered Narcan to reverse the effects.

Although MTPD was able to save a life this time, they were not so lucky last week. Two township residents died of heroin overdoses in a one week span in early February, as Patch reported.

Those deaths came just before Governor Christie signed the The Overdose Prevention Act into law.

"Governor Christie’s Administration has provided several concepts to address the [drug] problem. One example is the Overdose Prevention Act, which provides immunity against prosecution for simple possession of controlled dangerous substances when people report those that need medical attention," MTPD Mark DiCarlo said at the time.
