What's the Story Behind the New Mural?

If you've recently taken the Speedwell Avenue underpass under the Morris Plains Station Train Bridge, you've probably noticed the new "Welcome to Morris Plains" mural. The mural was designed by Tyler Urrutia, a Morris Plains resident and member of Boy Scout Troop 39 in Morris Plains. Tyler also led a team to install the mural for his Boy Scout Eagle project. The project required scraping off an old mural and painting the new one in its place, under the New Jersey Transit Morris Plains Station Train Bridge on the northbound side of Speedwell Avenue.

The Eagle project is one of the last steps toward becoming an Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in Boy Scouts. An Eagle project involves planning developing and leading others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, school or community. Tyler’s project was approved by the Borough of Morris Plains, as well as leaders from Troop 39 and Patriot’s Path Council.

Troop 39 meets Mondays at 7:15 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Morris Plains. For more information, visit the troop’s website at www.troop39bsa.org.
