2 Morris County Bridges Getting Replaced: See Roadwork Details

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A portion of Pleasant Hill Road in the Flanders section of Mount Olive Township will close to through traffic for approximately four months as Morris County replaces two aging bridges over Drakes Brook.

The closure is scheduled to begin Monday after the morning rush hour, according to county officials.

Motorists will be directed along a signed detour using Reger Road and Ironia Road. Trucks will follow a separate detour using Furnace Road and Route 206.

Both bridges are located near the Flanders Valley Golf Course and have deteriorated over time, prompting the county to replace the structures.

The older of the two bridges, located on the north side of Pleasant Hill Road closest to Ironia Road, was built in 1900. The bridge has severe rusting and section loss in its steel beams, according to the county.

The second bridge, built in 1940, also has rusting steel beams along with voids in its foundations.

As part of the project, the 126-year-old bridge will be replaced with a prestressed concrete beam bridge featuring a concrete deck, stone-faced parapets and wingwalls, according to officials.

The 1940 bridge will be replaced with a three-sided precast concrete frame featuring precast wingwalls and bridge railings, along with an asphalt overlay.

The $2.61 million project is being completed by Konkus Corporation of Hillsborough under a contract with Morris County.

Construction is expected to take roughly four months, weather permitting. Drivers should expect delays, use caution around the work zone, and consider alternate routes during construction, officials say.
