34 New COVID-19 Deaths In Morris Co. Nursing Homes

New testing of staff and residents will be mandatory next week.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ - The rates may be slowing, but there are still 34 new deaths in long-term care facilities in Morris County since last week, according to the numbers reported to the New Jersey Department of Health by the facilities.

Gov. Phil Murphy, speaking during a news conference Monday, said that stemming the deaths in these facilities, among residents and staff is something his administration is working very hard on.

"There are several hundred thousand people's lives we're still trying to save as we speak," Murphy said. "And at the same time we mourn the extraordinary loss."

The loss Murphy is referring to is the 5,408 deaths that have been spread across 28,136 cases in 527 facilities.

Part of those efforts include a plan includes testing all residents and staff at long-term care facilities. It will require all residents and staff at long-term care facilities to be tested no later than May 26, with follow-up testing happening no longer than one week later.

In Morris County there are 1,699 cases are spread among the 41 impacted facilities. There have been 429 deaths at these facilities as reported by the New Jersey Department of Health on Monday. Last week the report had 395.

The largest outbreak in Morris County remains at the Lincoln Park Care Center. The report shows 211 cases, up from 179, were logged there and out of those there were 60 deaths, up from 56.

The list of facilities was provided by the state Department of Health; there may be discrepancies due to a delay in communications between the facilities and the state:
