Affiliated Dermatology Mourns Loss of Founder

Dr. Emil Bisaccia was killed while piloting plane in Ohio on April 21.

Ā mourns the loss of co-founder and head surgeon Emil Bisaccia, M.D. who died onĀ April 21, 2012, in a plane crash. Widely regarded as one ofĀ New Jersey’s preeminent dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons, Dr. Bisaccia was piloting a single-engine plane while en route toĀ Columbus,Ā OH.Ā Ā Omar Torres, M.D. has assumed Dr. Bisaccia’s patient responsibilities and will now serve as the Center’s head surgeon.

ā€œWe are deeply saddened by the tragic and untimely passing ofĀ Ā Emil Bisaccia,ā€ said long-time friend and colleague, Dwight Scarborough, M.D. ā€œThis tragedy is a profound loss to his colleagues, patients and the Affiliated Dermatology staff, and he will be greatly missed.ā€

Dr. Bisaccia was a co-founder of Affiliated Dermatology. Board certified in dermatology and licensed to practice inĀ New Jersey,Ā New YorkĀ andĀ Ohio, he was very active in clinical research in his field and a prolific author of academic papers, books, peer review journal articles and conference papers on the subjects of dermatology and cosmetic surgery.Ā Ā Ā Dr. Bisaccia was honored by theĀ AmericanCollegeĀ of Physicians andĀ ColumbiaĀ UniversityĀ MedicalĀ CenterĀ and was consistently recognized amongĀ New Jersey’s Top Docs, The Best Doctors inAmerica, Strathmore’s Who’s Who AmongĀ America’s Cosmetic Doctors, America’s Top Physicians and Best Docs.Ā

A diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology, Dr. Bisaccia was a fellow in theĀ AmericanĀ AcademyĀ of Dermatology, American Society of Mohs Surgery, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery,Ā AcademyĀ ofĀ Facial, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery, AmericanĀ AcademyĀ of Cosmetic Surgery, andĀ AmericanĀ CollegeĀ of Physicians. He also served as a professor of clinical dermatology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons inĀ New York City, as well as an associate clinical professor at theĀ UniversityĀ ofĀ MedicineĀ and Dentistry of New Jersey. In addition to serving as chief surgeon at Affiliated Dermatology, he was associated with Ā as well asĀ SomersetĀ MedicalĀ Center.Ā Ā Ā Ā 

Among his most notable accomplishments wasĀ The Columbia Manual of Dermatologic Cosmetic Surgery, a major medical textbook which he co-authored with Dr. Scarborough.

He earned his M.D from the Medical College of Ohio and a B.A.Ā cum laude, from OhioĀ StateĀ University. A resident ofĀ Basking Ridge,Ā NJ, he is survived by his wife, Teresa, and two sons (Adam andĀ Devon).Ā Ā 

Plans for Dr. Bisaccia’s funeral have not yet been announced.
