Amazon Packages Dumped Off Side Of Morris Co. Road

The Grinch isn't behind the missing packages-- but police aren't sure who is.

HANOVER, NJ — Wondering why your two-day Amazon Prime shipping seems like it's been taking a lot longer than two days? Its possible your package was one of many found dumped off the side of the road in Harding Township.

Harding police shared a picture of the packages, above, Wednesday afternoon. Harding Police Chief Erik Heller told nj.com there were about two dozen found off of Fawn Hill Drive. All of them had been opened, and items were missing from about half of them.

An Amazon spokesperson said they would assist with the investigation. No arrests have been made.

Package thefts happen year-round, but tend to spike during the holiday seasons when online shopping is up. Harding police shared steps you can take to avoid having your packages swiped:

  • Customize your deliveries. Most companies have this option. You can change the time and location of the delivery.
  • Consider an alternate destination. When you order something online, consider sending the package to your workplace or to a family member, friend, or neighbor who is home during the day to accept delivery.
  • Request a signature. Many packages today are sent without requiring a signature for delivery. If you’re shipping something of high value – or you just want to be sure the items aren’t left unattended – you can require a signature for packages to be released. Only the shipper can make this request.
  • Leave special instructions. Ask delivery companies to leave packages at the rear of your residence or on the side of the house by the garage for example.
