MORRISTOWN, NJ — David Portnoy, otherwise known as “El Presidente” of Barstool Sports, stopped into Morristown recently to conduct one of his world-famous pizza reviews.
For years, the internet icon has been stopping into pizzerias across the country and ranking their pies on a scale of one through ten. His appearances and scores have increased (and sometimes decreased) the popularity of pizza joints across the U.S.
This week, he strolled into Pomodoro Ristorante & Pizzeria, located at 125 Morris Street, to see what Morristown had to offer pizza-wise.
Portnoy has made it no secret that his ratings can be biased. He has made it very clear that he likes a thin-crust, bar pie-style pizza, and he was delighted when opening Pomodoro’s pie.
“This is almost like bar style, except bigger, but that’s what I like,” he said in the review.
Before biting into a pizza, Portnoy likes to review how a pizza “flops” when being held by the crust. In the past, a slice with little to no flop meant a crust with good structural integrity, and it often got an above-average score.
As he held a Pomodoro slice up to the camera, there was hardly any flop.
“They don’t even know how to spell ‘flop’ in Morristown,” Portnoy said.
After devouring a slice, he gave Pomodoro its score: a 7.5/10.
“I could eat it every day,” Portnoy said of Pomodoro’s slice.
For context, the only 10/10 perfect score Portnoy ever gave was Monty's Pizza in Lynn, Massachusetts. The second-highest was given to another Garden State spot, DeLucia's Brick Oven in Raritan, which earned a 9.4/10.
Pomodoro Ristorante & Pizzeria, a family-owned joint, is open Sunday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. They can be reached at 973-538-6000 or 973-538-1002.
