HILLSIDE, NJ— April 28, 2026

For a milestone fifth year, the Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ) is holding a month-long statewide campaign to help provide period supplies for neighbors in need. During the month of May, the #GreatBigPeriodProductDrive will raise awareness and collect period products and funds to address period poverty, a problem faced by thousands of New Jersey residents. CFBNJ’s Women Fighting Hunger volunteers are spearheading the campaign.

On Saturday, May 2 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, five Village Super Market ShopRite stores across New Jersey in partnership with Procter & Gamble will serve as drop-off sites for the drive. Participating locations include:

Most-needed items include pads, tampons, and panty liners. All items must be in new and original packaging. Nationwide, two in five people with periods report struggling to purchase period products. One in three low-income women have reported missing work, school, or similar commitments due to lack of access to period supplies, while nearly one in four students in the U.S. struggle to afford these necessities.

“Too many people with periods are forced to choose between purchasing period products and paying for other necessities,” said Elizabeth McCarthy, President & CEO of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. “Access to menstrual products is essential to health, dignity, and opportunity. We’re proud to work alongside our partners and supporters to help ensure our neighbors have the resources they need and to shine a light on an issue that impacts thousands across New Jersey.”

Without access to basic menstrual products, women and girls may miss work or school, lose income, and face impossible choices between essentials like food, rent, and hygiene. Some may be forced to use unsafe alternatives or extend use of products longer than recommended, increasing health risks and widening gaps in education and economic opportunity. Period poverty is a poverty issue, a public health issue, and a gender equity issue.

Beyond the single-day drive on May 2, the #GreatBigPeriodProductDrive will run throughout the month of May in honor of Period Poverty Awareness Week, May 11–17. Individuals, groups, and companies are invited to join the effort by conducting their own in-person or virtual drives or by supporting CFBNJ’s campaign directly. Because of CFBNJ’s extensive buying power, financial donations can have a significant impact. A $36 donation can provide a year’s worth of period products for a neighbor in need.

CFBNJ is a founding allied program of the National Diaper Bank Network’s Alliance for Period Supplies. Through its Period Initiative, the FoodBank provides supplies to low-income, unhoused, and sheltered individuals across its service area.

CFBNJ’s Women Fighting Hunger supports the goals and priorities of the organization, providing food, help, and hope through hands-on philanthropy, leadership, and collaboration. Skilled volunteer opportunities are available year-round through a program that also provides opportunities for education, personal growth, and a sense of community.
