MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Those looking to witness “The Most Amazing Thing” won’t have to wait long, because “Little Women,” the Broadway musical, is headed to the Morris County stage.
The Roxbury Arts Alliance will be putting on the musical at the Citizens Bank Theater in the Horseshoe Lake Municipal Complex in Succasunna in the coming weeks.
Organizers say the “timeless story of love, ambition, and sisterhood kicks off the summer season.”
Based on Louisa May Alcott's classic novel, the Tony-nominated musical adaptation also follows the March sisters as they navigate love, loss, and sisterhood amid the backdrop of the American Civil War.
Starring as the March sisters are Sarah Kowalcheck as Meg, Natalie Crespolini as Jo, Kayla Del Valle as Beth, and Cailin Brennan as Amy.
Natalie, playing the “spirited and ambitious” March sister, says embodying Jo has been a dream she did not expect to achieve so soon, adding that it’s been “an emotional rollercoaster.”
“(Jo’s) fiery personality, confidence, and determination to accomplish her goals are something I strive to achieve in my everyday life. I love telling this story through Jo’s eyes,” Natalie told Patch. “I believe that if I can express her fear of growing up and apart from her sisters and her struggle to find love through my performance, I can improve the quality and impact of the story on the audience and my fellow costars… I love this challenge… I hope the audience enjoys the show as much as I enjoy performing it, and cannot wait for opening!”
Playing the eldest March sister is Sarah, who said stepping into Meg’s shoes has been “an absolute joy,” and “a deeply rewarding experience.”
“(Meg’s) often seen as the ‘forgotten’ sister; labeled simply as the romantic, as though she lacks depth - but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Meg may not be as outspoken as Jo or as boldly expressive as Amy, and she isn’t immortalized in the same way as Beth, yet her story is just as rich and meaningful,” Sarah says. “She’s grounded and responsible, but she also has moments of playfulness, strength, and self-discovery… I've been honored to bring to life her warmth, her complexity, and the essential role she plays in balancing the dynamic of the Little March Women.”
Also starring in the musical are Scott McKinley as Mr. Lawrence, Matthew North as Laurie Lawrence, Hunter Chung as Mr. Brooke, Victoria Romero as Clarissa, and Alex Maron as Professor Bhaer.
The show plays May 30 and June 6 at 7:30 p.m., with 3 p.m. matinees on May 31 and June 7. Tickets are available online here and cost $25 for general admission, $15 for students.
