Grammy, Oscar-Winning Rock Star And Activist Headed To Morristown Stage

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Grammy-winning rock singer and songwriter Melissa Etheridge is bringing her "Rise" tour to Morristown this September.

Etheridge will perform at the Mayo Performing Arts Center on Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $67 to $159, with fees included.

Known for her raspy vocals and deeply personal songwriting, Etheridge has been a fixture of American rock music since releasing her self-titled debut album in 1988.

The tour comes in support of "Rise," Etheridge's first studio album in five years. The 11-song album was written and co-produced by Etheridge, who worked on the project with Grammy-winning producer Shooter Jennings.

The album also includes "The Other Side of Blue," a duet with country star Chris Stapleton.

Etheridge's breakthrough came after the release of her debut album, which included "Bring Me Some Water" and led to an appearance on the Grammy Awards in 1989.

She won her first Grammy Award in 1992 for "Ain't It Heavy" before reaching another level of commercial success with her 1993 album "Yes I Am."

That album produced two of her best-known songs, "I'm the Only One" and "Come to My Window." The latter earned Etheridge another Grammy for Best Female Rock Performance.

Her 1995 album, "Your Little Secret," became her highest-charting album and featured the hit "I Want to Come Over." Etheridge was subsequently honored as Songwriter of the Year at the ASCAP Pop Awards in 1996.

Etheridge added an Academy Award to her accolades in 2007, winning Best Original Song for "I Need to Wake Up," which she wrote for Al Gore's climate change documentary "An Inconvenient Truth."

Her career has also included advocacy work. Etheridge launched The Etheridge Foundation in 2020 to support scientific research into new treatments for opioid use disorder.
