MORRISTOWN, NJ — Singers looking to lend their voices to a local ensemble will have several opportunities to audition for the Morris Choral Society this September.
The Morris Choral Society is seeking new members of all ages and backgrounds, with admission to the chorus by audition.
Interested singers can attend rehearsals on Sept. 14, 21 or 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 131 Mountain Way in Morris Plains. Those with questions or who want to arrange an audition can call 973-723-6424.
The group performs a range of choral music, including works by Handel, Orff, Verdi, Poulenc, Brahms and Vaughan Williams.
New members will have the chance to prepare for the society's upcoming holiday program, "Home for the Holidays Goes to the Movies."
Two performances are scheduled for December. The first will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Assumption Church in Morristown. A second concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Morris Plains.
The Morris Choral Society is led by Music Director Michael Shane Wittenburg, an accomplished conductor and pianist who has worked internationally and across the United States.
Wittenburg made his European conducting debut with Puccini's "Turandot" at the Romanian National Theatre of Opera and Ballet and has since led performances in Romania, Bulgaria, Austria, Hungary and Spain. In the United States, he has worked with opera companies in Nashville, Orlando and Sarasota.
Jennifer Yang serves as the society's piano accompanist. Yang has been the organist and accompanist at Morristown United Methodist Church for more than a decade and has performed in solo, chamber music and choir concerts around the world.
Funding for the Morris Choral Society is provided in part by Morris Arts through the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, as well as the Masterwork Foundation.
