Produce Truck Flips, Bursts Into Flames On Morris Co. Highway

The overturned truck burst into flames after it was hit by a sedan, officials said.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Traffic was backed up for hours this week in Morris County after a crash resulted in the fiery explosion of a produce truck, officials said.

On Monday, around 3:45 a.m., police were called to I-80 East at milepost 40 in Denville on reports of a crash.

Authorities learned that a tractor-trailer, carrying produce, was headed eastbound when the driver lost control, veered off the roadway to the left, slammed into the center median, and overturned over the median onto the westbound lanes, police said.

At that time, a Hyundai sedan traveling westbound collided with the overturned truck, causing it to burst into flames, according to officials.

Both of the drivers were able to get free from their vehicles and were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The crash is still under investigation by NJ State Police.
