Literacy Volunteers of Morris County Executive Director Announces Retirement

After nearly three decades of dedicated service to Literacy Volunteers of Morris County (LVMC), Executive Director Debbie Leon has announced her retirement from the organization to take effect at the end of the year.
For almost 30 years, Leon has devoted her career to expanding literacy, strengthening communities, and helping adults build the English language skills they need to succeed in their daily lives. Under her leadership, Literacy Volunteers of Morris County has provided free literacy and English language instruction to thousands of individuals while connecting volunteers and learners throughout the county.
"It has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to lead Literacy Volunteers of Morris County," said Debbie Leon. "When I began this journey nearly 30 years ago, I could not have imagined how deeply this organization would become a part of my life. I have been fortunate to work alongside an extraordinary group of volunteers, staff, supporters, and community partners who believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and participate fully in our community."
The Board of Directors expressed its deep appreciation for Debbie's longstanding leadership and commitment to LVMC and the Morris County community. "Debbie has been the heart and driving force behind Literacy Volunteers of Morris County for nearly 30 years," said Susan Ticker, President of the LVMC Board of Directors. "Her passion for literacy, her dedication to our learners and volunteers, and her unwavering belief in the power of education have made an immeasurable difference in our community. While we will miss her leadership, we are grateful for the remarkable legacy she leaves behind."
As she looks toward retirement, Leon says she is most grateful for the people who have made her years with LVMC so meaningful. "I leave knowing that Literacy Volunteers of Morris County is in the hands of people who care deeply about its mission," she said. "I am especially thankful to our volunteers, whose generosity makes everything we do possible, and to our learners, who have taught me as much as I have ever taught them. It has been an honor to be part of their journeys."
