NJ Mother Walks In On Stepfather Abusing Daughter, Police Say

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Additional details on the man accused of abusing a child and trying to hide it have been released by prosecutors.

Sivaldo A. Gonzalez Vasquez, 59, of Lake Hopatcong, is accused of sexually abusing his four-year-old stepdaughter for a period of several months and trying to cover it up, prosecutors said.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, on Sept. 11, Vasquez's wife walked in on him abusing his stepdaughter in her bedroom. Specifically, she saw her daughter's pajamas unzipped with Vasquez's hand on her privates, it reads.

Later that day, the victim told a family friend that she and Vasquez would play a "game" she called "Chupa Chupa" which involved licking each other's privates, officials said.

After the abuse was reported to Jefferson Police, investigators learned that the girl was assaulted at least five times over the course of three to four months, police records read.

Further investigation revealed that Vasquez urged his wife, as well as the victim, to avoid talking to law enforcement about the sexual assault, police said.

Police also overheard a phone call during which Vasquez admitted to assaulting the girl, according to the affidavit.

Police records say that Vasquez admitted to investigators to both abusing the girl and trying to get her and her mother to not tell the authorities.

On Sept. 11, Vasquez was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault, three counts of sexual assault, one count of endangering the welfare of a child, and two counts
of witness tampering.

He was taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility to await his Oct. 19 court date.
