Now, the Pequannock and greater Morris County community is coming together to mourn Charlie and support his family.
A fundraiser established over the weekend has already raised more than $65,000 for Charlie's family to help with unexpected funeral expenses, a memorial bench, and "other related costs to this loss."
A student of Pequannock Township High School, Charlie is also being mourned by students and staff.
"As always, we will support each other as we navigate these sad and difficult times and will do our best to continue with the routines and school activities that typically bring comfort to a grieving community," Principal Richard M. Hayzler said in a statement. "We ask that you please keep the family, friends, and the PTHS community in your thoughts at this time."
Hayzler said that the district's Crisis Response Team has been implemented to help students and staff manage the unexpected loss of Charlie. The Morris County Trauma Coalition, as well as school counselors, are being made available for the grieving school community.
Details of visitation and funeral services for the teen were not immediately available, but check back with Patch for updates.
