MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A helicopter pilot was hospitalized this week after crash-landing in a Morris County backyard, according to police.
On Monday, around 8:30 p.m., Kinnelon police were called to a home on Kinnelon Road following reports of a "helicopter down," authorities said.
Police found that a helicopter had hit some trees on its final approach to the yard and crash-landed, officials said.
Police said the aircraft resembled that of a Robinson R22, a two-seat, two-bladed, single-engined, light utility helicopter.
The pilot, who owned the property he was trying to land on, was able to get out of the helicopter on his own, authorities said. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries, the police added.
He was the only occupant, and no other injuries were reported, authorities said.
The FAA, NTSB, and the NJ DOT Division of Aeronautics are investigating the incident, officials said.
