MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A threat towards a Morris County middle school prompted a shelter-in-place on Friday, according to officials.
On Friday morning, authorities learned of a threat involving a student of Dover Middle School. Out of an abundance of caution, the school entered a shelter-in-place, according to school representatives.
School representatives said that students were "visibly upset and concerned" by the threat.
Dover Police announced that the person involved with the threat has been identified, and that there is no longer a known threat to students or staff of Dover Middle School, nor the general public.
The shelter-in-place has since been lifted, and school administrators visited classrooms throughout the building to "speak directly with students, address their concerns, and reassure them that they were in a safe and supportive environment," according to Superintendent Luis A. Jaime.
"We understand that situations like these can create anxiety for students and families. Please know that the emotional well-being and safety of our students remain our highest priorities," Jaime added. "Thank you for your continued trust, understanding, and partnership."
Dover police said that because the situation involves a minor, no additional details will be released at this time.
