MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A motorcyclist is dead following an early-morning crash in a Morris County suburb on Tuesday, officials said.
Around 2:30 a.m., police were called to the intersection of Route 23 and Newark Pompton Turnpike in the Pompton Plains section of Pequannock Township on reports of a single-vehicle crash.
Authorities found that a 22-year-old woman riding a motorcycle had crashed and was pronounced dead at the scene, officials confirmed with Patch. It's not clear if she was the driver or a passenger at this time, but no other injuries were reported.
The crash prompted a road closure in the area early Tuesday morning. The area reopened just after 7 a.m.
The crash is under investigation by the Pequannock Township Police Department's traffic bureau, the Morris County Sheriff's Office, and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.
