MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Two people have been arrested after an Apple Watch alerted police to a kidnapping case in Morris County, prosecutors say.

On Wednesday, a Dover resident’s Apple Watch sent an emergency SOS notification to police. When officers went to the resident's home to check on them, they were nowhere to be found, but their car was still parked outside.

Police found the victim’s watch about a mile down the road, with damage indicating it had been ā€œforcefully removed from their person,ā€ prosecutors said.

Siquaya F. Smith, 37, and Louis G. Cadet, 40, both of Northfield, were arrested for the kidnapping.

Police say that the duo forced the victim into their car while the victim was headed to work. The victim was then driven to an ā€œunidentified location,ā€ beaten, and threatened by the duo to transfer $25,000 into their bank account.

Authorities said this was a targeted attack, and the investigation is ongoing.

The pair was charged with kidnapping, robbery, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

They were taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility to await court proceedings.
