Black Bear Found Sleeping On Morristown Green

A black bear was discovered sleeping in a tree on the Morristown Green late Tuesday night by a pair of locals leaving a business meeting at Fomo, a South Street bar. Police were called to keep an eye on the sleeping bear; no residents were notified, and it is unclear how the bear was removed. Patch received no response to our requests for comment from the police.

Crumbl Cookies Grand Opening In Greater Morristown

Crumbl Cookies, a franchise with over 400 locations in the United States, will celebrate the grand opening of its newest location in Morris Plains on Friday, June 10, from 8 a.m. to midnight. Crumbl Cookies is located in Briarcliff Commons, next to a Chop't and a Chipotle. The store is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursdays, and from 8 a.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Elementary School Kids In Morris Co. Raise Funds For Cancer Research

A group of 30 Harding Township fifth-graders raised more than $2,600 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. On May 17th, the fifth graders graduated from Law Enforcement Against Drugs and Violence (L.E.A.D.) and took part in a fundraiser called "Kids Helping Kids," which was started by their instructor, Harding Township Officer Louis Pirrello Jr.

Former Morris Co. Bank Employee Admits $8 Million Fraud Scheme: Feds

A Morris County former bank employee admitted to committing bank fraud for more than five years totaling approximately $8 million and accepting bribes, prosecutors announced last week. Kurt Phelps, 53, of Flanders, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and one count of bank bribery via videoconference. Phelps' three conspirators had previously pleaded guilty in connection with the fraud.

Morris Township Awarded Grant For New Garden In Community Park

A $1,000 grant has been awarded to the Morris Township Environmental Commission to plant a demonstration pollinator garden in Butterworth Park. The project is funded by the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (ANJEC) to demonstrate the viability of pollinator gardens on public and private land.

Jail Time For Morris Co. Man In Cocaine Trafficking Conspiracy: Feds

A Morris County man has been sentenced to 78 months in prison after admitting to his role in a plan to distribute large quantities of cocaine in and around Passaic County, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced. Kiuny Perez, 44, of Rockaway Township, previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine before U.S. District Judge Claire C. Cecchi. Perez was sentenced earlier last week in federal court in Newark, according to authorities.
