Morristown Rotary Club Partners with Pedals for Progress to Collect Used Bicycles and Sewing Machine

MORRISTOWN, NJ — The Morristown Rotary Club is calling on local residents to clear out their garages and basements for a great cause. On Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the Rotary Club will host a collection drive for used bicycles and working sewing machines in the back parking lot of the Morristown Municipal Building.
The collected items will be donated to Pedals for Progress (and its domestic program, Sewing Peace), a non-profit organization that reconditions and ships used bicycles and sewing machines to developing countries in Latin America, Africa, and Eastern Europe.
Rather than sitting idle in storage or ending up in landfills, these items serve as vital tools for basic transportation and self-sufficiency:
Bicycles provide reliable mobility for adults and teens to commute to work, transport goods to market, and reach distant health clinics or schools.
Sewing Machines empower individuals and small business owners to earn a livelihood through tailoring and clothing repair.
"A simple bicycle or working sewing machine that you no longer use can completely transform someone’s life across the globe," said Will Draper, President of the Morristown Rotary Club. "We encourage everyone in the community to check their homes and bring down any unused items on October 24th."

What to Bring:
Bicycles: Adult and children’s bicycles in repairable condition (no tricycles or severely rusted bikes).
Sewing Machines: Portable sewing machines in working condition (electric or manual pedal).
Donors are asked to contribute a $20 donation per item to help cover the costs of shipping, international logistics, reconditioning, and spare parts. All donations are tax-deductible, and receipts will be provided on-site.
